ELements of Spiritual Prayer by Shirley Dobson

In Keep in Step with the Spirit, J.I. Packer lists four elements of spiritual prayer:

First it is a matter of seeking, claiming, and making use of access to God through Christ (Ephesians 2:18).

Then the Christian adores and thanks God for his acceptance through Christ and for the knowledge that through Christ his prayers are heard.

Third, he asks for the Spirit’s help to see and do what brings glory to Christ, knowing that both the Spirit and Christ himself intercede for him…(Romans 8:26-27, 34).

Finally, the Spirit leads the believer to concentrate on God and his glory in Christ with a sustained, single-minded simplicity of attention and intensity of desire…supernaturally wrought.

May each of these bring you new spiritual intensity.

Prayer for Today: Praise God for accepting you through Christ; repent of any failure to use your access to God through Christ; ask for His Spirit’s power in living this day in integrity; yield to Him by doing what is right wherever you’ve been tempted to do otherwise.

Intercession

Oh Father, standing in the gap
pacing the top of the wall i gasp
how deep is the evil around us
how decieved the created is
spitting in Your face
and You still seek their salvation

Father You have sent others to speak
They bear Your heart
It is in every word of peace and hope
it is the words of life
living and active words strong words
to tear down walls and strongholds

Oh God empower those sent to speak
Saturate them with Your Holy Spirit
Permeate every part of them
tongue, eyes, nose, ears
Make them an extension of Your hands
Make people run after You thru them

Keep me fully aware of Your working
open my eyes to the spiritual realms
open my ears to hear spiritual words
the fights in hearts, deep in souls
make me a tool for Your will
keep me as a clean conduit of Your will to earth

Father keep my heart bound to Yours
As You feel me by the lesser food of prayer
and satisfy me with the greater food of Your word
discipline me quickly so my prayers are heard
i crucify my flesh in sacrifices of submission to You
keep my point of view clearly Yours
that i may fully pray Your will boldly without fear full of love

Oh Father how my heart breaks!
the tears i watch them fall
from eyes that constantly praise You
the pained heart breaking
that worships You always

What words oh Lord do I utter
to any comfort may I lead them
help me my King to help them
as they have no control
what their children do


 You know father that my desire is to lift You up
I long only to guide the hurting to You
my only breath is a map with words
marking the narrow path to You
past the torn veil into Your pressence

Fullness of Joy is found there with You
Even through the hardest of trial
the darkest of night and blinding water
use me to guide them Lord
as my life lifts Your son Jesus up

Repentant

Oh Father, the door stood open
Jesus You held out Your hand
Holy Spirit a warning You alarmed
visual, consideration, action, birth - sin

Father come to my aid
forgive me again
I am not worthy of Your Sons blood
But Your grace pours it on me anyway

Father consider my sad existence
this world of flesh in which i find my abode

how it fights me at every turn
Its desire like a dog after the scent of a female

Consider, my Creator, my weak and poor state
that there is no good in me but You
I long for You to be all thats in me
help me overcome as i stand up again

Oh Jesus I know Your are patient and kind
You hold my hand as i rise to You
through true repentance I come
A hard lesson learned indeed
from even the appearance of evil flee!

The day after Freedom

The closer you get to Jesus the harder your heart burns for the lost.

I have spent many hours praying for people i may never meet, people whose name I do not even know. The more that Jesus helps me the more i want to help others.

I find that my hearts burns for people to understand the truth that they can really trust God.

I find that my tears flow freely when Jesus is quickly rejected.

I find that my view changes the more time i spend with Jesus.

The encouraging thing is that with all the burning, crying and view changing I am reminded, as is my enemy, that Gods Word is alive and active in me. In You too. This is our hope that we can pray God to be active in other peoples lives. We can allow the Holy Spirit to pray through us things we don't know, Gods will flowinng  through us in the form of prayer.

You see it does not matter if you have never meet the man you are praying for because as you pray more and more for him, or her, you feel Gods heart for them. The closer you get to Jesus the more your heart reflects, feels and responds like Gods ------  desirous that all should come to salvation.
